Tennis Nashville: Letter from the President

Since accepting the position of Tennis Nashville Association President in July of this year, I’ve been learning much about Community Tennis Associations and their purpose, making lots of phone calls and sending emails to fellow tennis friends and former board members, and surfing the web for answers, assessing our direction. Most every large city has a CTA and most are affiliated with USTA. CTA’s are non-profit organizations run by VOLUNTEERS, to specifically promote the game of tennis, build community relationships, and give back to the community and designated charities.

Tennis Nashville has added new board members and allowed those who’ve served (more than their fair share) to “retire”, moving into advisory positions.

Along with updating our Board of Directors, we’ve been focused on updating our mission statement, strategic plan, bylaws, committees and relations with USTA Southern as well as building a much needed volunteer base.

Many hands make light work:

Here is a list of our committees so far and possible areas of interest where YOU CAN HELP:

  • Local Teaching pro relations
  • Volunteer and Membership Drive Initiative
  • Player development-Junior, Adult and beyond
  • Communications: Newsletters including local, national and global tennis “corners”
  • Marketing and publicity and sponsorships
  • Nashville Tennis Center Initiative-Nashville Parks and Rec relations, sponsorship and donor contact list. Tapping in to all of Nashville’s industries including music, health, professional sports, and many others.
  • Public tennis court initiative drive(with Metro Parks and Rec.)creating more awareness of local public court conditions and availability and possible court reservation needs. Placement of TN Banners on all public courts?
  • Monthly tournament by email initiative. (North vs South vs East vs West, adult, junior, incorporating UTR* rating system)
  • Re-launch Party for Tennis Nashville- February 2019
  • SPUD tournament and charity event- Summer 2019
  • Pro-Am tournament and charity event- Fall 2019

Sincerely,

Helen Neuhoff
President, Tennis Nashville
