Murfreesboro tennis enthusiasts are waiting for the right opportunity to return to the court at Adams Tennis Center. Here's more on the update for tennis play returning from John Kreis.
1. What has been the response from your members since tennis has returned to the court?
There has been a mixed response. Some members have been very cautious and waited or are still waiting to return. Others have gotten back in to their regular patterns. Overall, I would have to describe our activity as very busy!
2. Do you have unique programs designed for this season?
Not really, I would say we have altered some of our existing programs to take precautions under the circumstances.
3. What do you see as the greatest opportunity, and the greatest threat for the near future of local tennis?
Probably the greatest opportunity is that kids unable to play other sports have tried tennis, perhaps for the first time, and that has given us a chance to grow the game. Tennis does provide some natural social distancing features which are attractive to parents at this time. My greatest fear is that someone who is either asymptomatic, or feels like they are not “too sick” to play, comes to the facility and puts others at risk!
4. What advice to do you have for those tennis players looking for a place to play?
Find a place where you feel comfortable, and be considerate of those you come in contact with. Hopefully by this time next year we can look back and say we took the necessary steps to be safe during the pandemic
