
On Sunday, March 8, Tennis Nashville hosted the 2020 Annual Social and Award Presentation. It was a great celebration of community tennis. Honorary chairmen for the evening were the legendary Bill Tym, and last year’s award recipient, Peter VanLingen.
Recipients of the 2020 Award of Excellence are Diane Dioguardi and Rick Neumann.
Kim Wilson, of USTA-TN, presented the award to Diane, who founded NALTA in 1982, and grew it to over 2,000 players today.
Michael Chamberlain, Executive Director of USTA-TN, presented the award to Rick Neumann, who has been instrumental as the Commissioner of MTTL since 2004, and serves over 900 players.
Mike Hurley, former USTA-TN President, as well as current Vice President of Tennis Nashville, introduced the Speakers.
Greg Bates, Treasurer of Tennis Nashville, and Director of Friends of Nashville spoke about the work we are doing to improve public tennis facilities. One of those programs is called Adopt-a-court. He looks forward to recruiting volunteers.
Eric Voges, Current President of USTA-TN, gave a compelling talk about the importance of active volunteers to help promote and grow the sport.

Door prizes were given out throughout the evening. The door prizes were donated by our sponsors. They included tennis racquets from the Tennis Store of Franklin and from String ‘n Swing of Brentwood. Holiday Inn Vanderbilt donated a one night stay, plus a $50 gift certificate to the Commodore Grill.
We are so grateful to our volunteers and Tennis enthusiasts, who worked to check in guests.. Malik Phipps, Patti Wright, Frannie Martin, Emily Hestdalen and Stuart Littleton helped to make the evening a great success.
