Gallatin native Tennys Sandgren captured his first singles title on the ATP tour this weekend, defeating Cameron Norrie in the finals of the ASB Classic. Sandgren won 6-4, 6-2, never trailing in the match. In fact, Sangren won the tournament played in Auckland, New Zealand without dropping a set.
Sandgren entered the tourney ranked 63rd in the world, and the win will vault him to a new career high ranking of No. 41. Sandgren enjoyed a breakout season on the Tour last year, beginning with a surprise Australian Open quarter final appearance. After the victory in Auckland, Sandgen next returns to Australia to try and improve on last year’s performance.
