"Tennis courts in Williamson County Parks and Recreation's outdoor parks never closed to the public for open or general recreation play," says Hudson.
1. What has been the response from your members since tennis has returned to the court?
Our indoor tennis courts and department organized tennis programs were closed or suspended for several weeks from mid-March through April during the local and state stay a home orders. Once our main recreation facilities reopened in May and programs resumed, individuals were very happy to be back on the courts.
2. Do you have unique programs designed for this season?
When tennis programs returned in mid-May, we limited participation to small groups of 4 people or less. Our tennis programs are now back to regular group sizes; but what remains unique to these programs is the adherence to social distancing guidelines and keeping individuals up to 6 feet apart.
3. What do you see as the greatest opportunity, and the greatest threat for the near future of local tennis?
Due to the nature of the game of tennis and the fact that not all organized sports have reconvened, we are seeing a lot of new tennis players! We are excited to see players return and to introduce new players to a sport we know they will love for a lifetime.
4. What advice to do you have for those tennis players looking for a place to play?
All Williamson County Parks and Recreation facilities and general programs are available to the public. Visit our website at www.wcparksandrec.com to review upcoming tennis camp, clinic, league and tournament opportunities; as well as to register for any department programs. A list of parks and outdoor tennis court locations can be found on our website as well. All outdoor courts are first come/first served when not in use for department activities. Indoor tennis court reservations can be made at the Indoor Sports Complex in Brentwood, 920 Heritage Way, also; if you want to beat the summer heat.
